Functions at Punjab monuments to highlight Sikh legacy

Announcing this during a function at the at Baba Banda Bahadur War Memorial today, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said cultural shows will be organised here and at other places like Virasat-e-Khalsa Sri Anandpur Sahib, Wadda Ghalugara at Kop Rahiran, Chota Ghalughara at Kahnuwan Chhamb.

"These plays on the theme of watershed movements in the history of Sikhism at these memorials would create awareness amongst our younger generations about their glorious religious and cultural past," Badal said.

He said the Virasat-e-Khalsa memorial at Sri Anandpur Sahib has evoked overwhelming response from the people as 7,000 to 8,000 people visit this heritage marvel every day.

Badal informed that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will also visit the memorial on November 7, which, he noted, will be a matter of "great honour and pride".

He said the state government has taken the Jang-e-Azaadi memorial expanded over an area of 25 acre will be constructed at Kartarpur near Jalandhar to showcase the contribution of Punjabis in country's freedom struggle.
