The Gadchiroli police have begun sending messages in bulk to mobile handset holders to people not only in their district but also in other naxal-affected areas like adjoining Chandrapur and Gondia too, alerting them about Maoist movements in their locality.
With this, it will be easy to pass on information immediately about any incident of naxal violence or other offences like clashes or attack on policemen in any part of the Gadchiroli.
The Gadchiroli Police have also hit upon a innovative idea of using 'Subscriber Detail Report' (SDR) facility as part of the modernised policing initiative to get instant information about mobile phone and vehicles used in attacks, Gadchiroli Police, public relations officer, PSI Pravin Nimbalkar told PTI.
As per the SDR scheme, a police officer will send an SMS to a particular number within his network of cops seeking information on a certain aspect and within no time, he will get a reply sms with details of mobile handset owner, company, network, location etc and also about vehicle number, date of registration, owner, engine number, vehicle chassis number.
Similarly on mobile phones, obscene messages are uploaded by unidentified numbers or extortion or threatening calls.
This facility will quickly identify the caller and location, Gadchiroli Police said.
