The Kirari Underground Reservoir and Pumping Station was today inaugurated here by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as part of efforts aimed at enhancing the piped water supply network in Delhi.
"It is a matter of great pride that more and more people are being covered under piped water supply network in Delhi. I hope this project will help improve the living conditions of the residents of this area," Road Transport and Highways Minister Gadkari said on the occasion.
BJP MP Udit Raj hailed the initiative taken by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to extend piped water supply to the Kirari Assembly constituency, saying, "I warmly congratulate the residents of the area."
According to DJB officials, the commissioning of the 15.90 million litres per day (MLD)-capacity, underground reservoir and pumping station is part of sustained efforts to cover new areas with potable water supply.
It is an important step towards meeting the basic needs of the residents living in the unplanned areas, they said.
The reservoir and pumping station will provide water to about 1.25 lakh residents in the 42 unauthorised colonies in Kirari Assembly constituency.
