The upcoming fashion trend of Spring/Summer seems to be dominated by edgy prints, embroidered caps and gamchas (towels) worn as scarfs.
The day three of the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week Spring/summer gave a sneak peak of the trend which would be in next season.
Varanasi based designer Chhaya Mehtotra brought the street look of the holy city of India. Models sashayed down the ramp wearing gamcha wrapped around their neck as scarves and rudraksh mala as wrist bands. To glamourise the look she used aviators.
"I feel that the upcoming spring/summer trend swears by comfort. Khaki, cottons and silks would be very much in similar to collection, which is inspired by the street look of Varanasi. Gamcha is like a style statement today and it's a very common look of Varanasi men in summer," Mehrotra said.
Embroidered caps are also making a comeback to the next fall. Caps, similar to Anna Hazare are not restricted to men's fashion but they played an equally important part in women's wardrobe.
Young designer Tanvi Kedia's travel collection, aptly titled 'Tabibito' which means Japanese traveller, brought the embroidered cap as a funky accessory to the collection which had loads of mirror and thread work
"I used those caps as accessory. I have taken inspiration from Afghans for these caps. They are funky at the same time traditional. My Japanese traveller has travelled to Pakistan, Afganistan and now landed in India. So, there are loads of tit-bits from these countries," she said.
As most of the collection was sans accessories, motifs played a major role. The prints ranged from Cyprus tress, coke bottles to rose petals.
