Tipplers in one of the liquor outlets in the city were taken aback when they encountered an unusual visitor who fell at their feet to persuade them to give up their drinking habit.
Those who came out of the wine shop after enjoying a few pegs were in for a shock when Gandhian Sasiperumal touched their feet.
The Gandhian has now embarked upon his campaign "funeral to liquor" as part of his movement seeking total prohibition in Tamil Nadu which would culminate on January 30 next, according to his close aides.
Moved by the persuasive approach of Sasiperumal, a 70-year-old visitor at the wine shop surrendered a liquor bottle which he had purchased and wished the Gandhian success in his campaign against liquor.
Sasiperumal is drawing support from his aides in his campaign which details ill-effects of liquor appealing to people to kick the habit.
