Gandhiji's principles more relevant today than ever before:
Press Trust of India Dehradun Stating that Mahatma Gandhi's principles of truth and non-violence are more relevant today than ever before, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said in this terror-torn world the path shown by the Father of the Nation alone can lead to peace.
In his message to the people of the state on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Rawat today said in accordance with Gandhi's vision of Gram Swaraj, the state government is committed to protect democratic values and take development to the people at the bottom of the social ladder.
Greeting the people on the occasion, Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi said Mahatma's life shows that he placed his country's welfare above everything else, including politics and religion.
Remembering another great leader Lal Bahadur Shastri who shares his birth anniversary with Gandhiji, Qureshi described him as the "epitome of simplicity" whose 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' slogan can never be forgotten.
