A four-member-gang was arrested today on charges of abducting a 19-year-old girl and seeking a ransom of Rs.One lakh for her release at nearby Tirupur, police said.
The gang, led by one Nazar, entered a banian checking centre at Kasipalayam in the town last night, in the guise of police personnel, saying there was a complaint that the centre was involved in the commercial sex business, police said.
After interrogating the owner, the gang took away Rs 3,000 in cash, two cell phones and a camera and also asked a 19-year-old girl, working there, to accompany them for further interrogation.
The Centre received a phone call some time later seeking Rs.One lakh for the girl's release.
Police traced the call, arrested the gang and freed the girl in the early hours of today, they said.
