An alleged gang of autolifters has been busted with the arrest of four accused and the recovery of seventeen vehicles, police said today.
On a tip off, police arrested two alleged members of a auto-lifting gang, Karan Gaba and Akshya Kumar, from Taj Enclave in Gita Colony with a stolen motorcycle. Later, four more stolen vehicles were recovered from their house.
"On further interrogation, the police arrested Mujahid and Anish from Gajrola and Hassanpur in UP, and recovered eight more stolen vehicles from them that were sold to them by Karan and Akshya for disposing off," said DCP (East) Ajay Kumar.
Four more vehicles were recovered by the police following Karan's interrogation who had given two vehicles to one Shakil, who was unaware that he had been handed over stolen vehicles, police said.
According to police, the accused Karan and Akshay learnt the tricks of the trade from professional auto lifters, Rohit and Imran, who taught the duo how to steal motorcycles and scootys and sell the stolen vehicles.
"The gang used to steal motorcycles when police patrolling was least. They also used to recce the route to avoid a police picket. The stolen vehicles were sold at Rs 3000-2000 per vehicle, Kumar said.
The police is looking for Rohit and Imran who are absconding in connection with the case, he added.
