The gang's mastermind Dharminder alias Kala, a resident of village Chhara in Jhajjar district was arrested from near here along with three of his associates while four other gang members were still absconding, Kurukshetra's Superintendent of Police, Simardeep Singh said.
The SP said the accused used a Multi Utility Vehicle with a blue beacon on it to pose as Excise department personnel and used to stop trucks loaded with liquor at secluded places.
They used to first check the documents on the pretext that they were Excise Department officials and later escape with the truck.
The SP disclosed that the accused had waylaid a truck full of liquor on July 16 last near Shahbad Markanda in Kurukshetra district.
The owner of the truck, Surinder Kumar, a resident of Rohini, New Delhi, in his complaint to police had alleged that some persons in the guise of Excise department officials waylaid his truck carrying liquor from Chandigarh and kidnapped the driver.
Later they left the driver at village Sangipur after stealing Rs 7000 and mobile from his possession.
