With the arrest of a father-son duo from north west Delhi along with one other person, police today claimed to have busted a gang of illicit liquor manufacturers, who prepared premium brands of scotch and whisky and sold it as duty free to customers.
Acting on a tip off, a team of special staff arrested the duo -- Jai Prakash Chawla (55) and Sumit -- near VIPS College on Outer Ring Road, DCP of North-West Delhi Vijay Singh said.
Huge quantity of illicit liquor was also recovered from their car. 60 bottles of leading scotch brands that were prepared by mixing standard proportions of cheaper brands of whisky and scotch were seized, Singh said.
Following their interrogation, police arrested a Munirka-based scrap dealer Ashok Santara, who provided empty bottles and cartons of premium brands, he said.
The father-son duo prepared the liquor at a flat in Rohini's Sector 15 area, which were later sold to customers as stock purchased from Duty Free shops.
The bottles were capped perfectly after filling the premixed liquor using a punching-pressure machine and sold within the range of Rs 1,100-2,100. The illicit liquor were also sold to customers, who supplied the stocks for parties and functions, he said.
Police raided the duo's flat from where over 100 empty bottles, caps and carton boxes of different premium brands of liquor, as well as machine used in the process were recovered, he said.
Accused Chawla had been preparing and selling illicit liquor for nearly a decade and arrested twice in this connection, the officer added.
