The Bihar Police today busted a gang of female robbers which had been operating in the state capital and adjoining areas.
Eight women members of the gang have been arrested so far, Patna SSP Manu Maharaj said.
The gang had been operating for the last five years in connivance with the auto-rickshaw drivers plying from the Patna Railway Junction and bus stand areas. They used to target mostly male single passengers alighting from the bus or the train, the SSP said.
"A couple of gang members would lie in wait in auto-rickshaws. Once the target sat in the vehicle, he was robbed mid-way to his destination. Those who resisted were threatened by the women of being implicated in false rape cases," Maharaj told PTI.
The gang was caught with the help of recently installed CCTV surveillance cameras in and around Patna. A couple of victims had complained to the police recently and the officials managed to identify a few of the gang members.
"Incidentally, one of the arrested women is the one who was stripped and paraded naked across the streets of Patna by a group of men in 2009. We are investigating the matter further," said the Patna SSP.
