Noida Police on Thursday busted a gang that dupedpeople by taking their debit and credit card details on the pretext of offering them discounts and reward points.The gang, which has duped "hundreds of people to the tune of crores" across the country, also targeted Paytm customers by offering discount schemes to them, the police said.A complaint of online fraud was received at the Bisrakh police station in Greater Noida which led investigators to the gang operating from Noida on Wednesday, an official said."The gang was busted by the Noida Cyber Cell, led by its incharge Baljit Singh, and Bisrakh police team," Superintendent of Police (Crime) Ashok Kumar said.The accused would reach out to easy targets over phone call posing as representative of a bank. They would tell the targets that their banks are offering to redeem points on their card and would need details like CVV number or pin or password or OTP.Those who fell for the offers would lose money from their accounts but realise the fraud much later, the SP told reporters.He said the gang also targeted Paytm users in a similar manner, offering cheap deals and discounts and sought money transfer through the mobile wallet itself.Those arrested have been identified as Deepak Mishra, Sumit Raj, Ravi Paswan, Sandeep Singh, Abhishek Kumar, Arvind Kumar and Monu Kumar, all residents of Delhi, he said.Two of their accomplices are absconding and would be nabbed soon, he added.A case of fraud under Indian Penal Code section 420 has been registered against them and they have also been booked under the Information Technology Act, the officer said.
