With the arrest of four persons, police today claimed to have busted a gang of robbers that robbed people after luring them by advertising costly Apple iPhones at cheap rates on e-market portals.
Police had received a complainant by Laxmi Nagar resident Akshay Manocha who reported that he was allegedly looted by four car-borne persons near Jasola in south east Delhi, on the evening of November 28, said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, deputy commissioner of police (south east).
The complainant said that he had seen an advertisement on a shopping website in which an Apple iPhone 6 Plus was available for sale on cheap rate. When he contacted the given phone number he was called at Jasola Metro Station where he was robbed on gun point by four robbers, the DCP said.
He added that the robbers then forced him to withdraw Rs 25,000 through his ATM card and also took away his mobile phone. Police registered a case of robbery at Sarita Vihar and launched investigation on his complaint.
Police worked on several leads and also took the help of the shopping website but no success was met in nabbing the accused, he said.
Finally, a chance usage of the complainant Akshay's phone by the accused led police to trace him. Following further investigation, raids were conducted and the accused Jahangir was caught on December 13, said the officer.
