Gangster arrested from Surat

35-year old Mohd Farooq, leader of the notorious interstate 'Mewati' gang who had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, was apprehended on January 30 from Ram Nagar Crossing in Rander, Surat, they said.

Farooq is wanted in many cases including last year's robbery case at Hira Jewellers Pitam Pura, they said.

In June last year, he along with his brother Mohd Arif and others associates, Aslam, Mushtaq, Wahid, Sunil, Sakim and Shahnawaz tried to loot a vehicle used for transporting jewelleries. Arif was killed at the spot in the firing, they said.

During investigation, all the accused were arrested except Farooq and a reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on his arrest by Delhi Police, they said.
