A specific tip about movement of Sher Khan (30) and his associate Shahun to former's native Bishambra village in Mathura was received by Delhi Police's Special cell, police said.
At around 4 AM, the duo were spotted riding towards Kosi Kalan on a motorcycle. When they were intercepted by the joint team, the duo started firing and several shots hit the bullet proof jackets of the policemen but Khan was overpowered while Sahun managed to flee.
He had escaped from the custody of Madhya Pradesh Police alongwith four other gangsters on December 12, 2015. They had also taken away firearms of the police party after giving them sedative-laced milk while escorting the prisoners from Ujjain Jail to Bhondsi Jail in Haryana.
Among the five, Sarvar Khan was caught on the spot, while Liyakat surrendered in court next day. Khan and two others were absconding. Sahun, who had also escaped from MP Police's custody, managed to escape while Khan was caught today.
Khan during interrogation revealed that after escaping from MP Police's custody, he, Sahun and Lilu evaded police by moving to southern part of the country, he said.
They committed a kidnapping for ransom, two Petrol pump robberies, 10 carjackings, two ATM robberies, six truck-jacking and other crimes in UP, MP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharastra and Telengana while being on run, the officer added.
