"Firoz alias Fauji, a notorious inter-state gangster of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, was wanted in the sensational murder of police constable Shivraj Singh Tomar that took place on July 14," said Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) S N Shrivastava.
He was also involved in 17 cases of murder, attempt to murder, assault on police personnel, robbery and Arms Act, he said.
Police was on the lookout for Firoz as he was wanted in the murder of 43-year-old Delhi Police constable Shivraj Singh Tomar and a team of Special Cell was constituted to nab him.
The team had got a tip off that Fauji would come to meet someone from Loni on Sonia Vihar Pushta in the wee hours following which a trap was laid. At around 5 AM, he reached Pushta Road on a Yamaha RX100 motorcycle.
Fauji then whipped out his pistol and fired on the police party. A shot fired by him hit Inspector Shiv Kumar on his bullet-proof jacket while another shot hit the Gypsy. The police party fired back in self defence. The accused sustained bullet injuries and was taken to GTB hospital in a PCR van where he was declared brought dead.
A sophisticated semi-automatic pistol was recovered from him. Fifteen to 17 rounds were exchanged during the firing between both the parties.
