Delhi police today said they have arrested an alleged gangster Mukesh Prajapati, who had jumped parole and was planning to kill members of a Najafgarh-based gang on the behest of another alleged gangster who is in jail.
Prajapati (32) was jailed after he was convicted for 10 years in a case of carjacking-cum-attempt to murder. He had come out on parole and was supposed to return on March 1, but did not.
Upon being informed by Tihar jail superintendent, the Crime Branch tracked him and got information that on April 4, he would come near Shani Mandir on Palam Dabri Road following which a trap was laid and he was apprehended, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
During interrogation, Prajapati revealed that while in jail, he came in contact with another gangster Naveen Khati, who asked him to eliminate the latter's rivals - gangster Manjeet Mahal and his men - and promised him Rs 60 lakh for the task.
Khati's brother and three others were killed by one Ravinder Bholu and others on the eve of 2015 New Year in in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. Khati suspected the role of Mahal.
So he asked Prajapati to kill the aides of Mahal and paid an advance.
Prajapati came out on parole and roped in Rohit, Surender alias Sanju, Chintu and Babu to execute the plan. They even arranged two sophisticated firearms for these killings.
However, Khati had not disclosed the names of the targeted persons to Prajapti as the same was to be communicated just a day prior to the assault, police said, adding that further investigations are on.
