Spain's premier football league LaLiga will be be hosting European style screenings of the 'El Clasico' between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in Delhi and Mumbai next month.
The screenings will be attended by former La Liga stars, Luis Garcia (Delhi) and Frederic Kanoute (Mumbai).
LaLiga President, Javier Tebas said, "Our aim is to take LaLiga all across the world, and further establish the league as one that is global and inclusive. We feel that the most important way to grow is to be closer to our fans, and provide them with newer, more exciting experiences.
"Both Real Madrid and Barcelona enjoy huge popularity in India and we feel that we owe the passionate fans of the league, a chance to experience such an event. This is a big step, and what we believe will be a great start to our journey in India."
Garcia, who played for FC Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid in LaLiga, said "It will be a great experience for me to watch El Clasico with the fans in India. I have seen the passion for football among the fans, and I feel that these are great initiatives to further grow LaLiga in India."
Former Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute added, "It will be my first visit to India, and I have heard a lot of great things about the popularity of LaLiga in the country. I am looking forward to meeting the fans and enjoying one of the biggest matches in world football.
