Acting on complaints of consumers, the LMD officers conducted detailed inspection of number of leading garments stores in Gandhi Nagar area today, official spokesman said.
To attract consumers various stores were offering attractive 'sales' offers up to 50 per cent on garments, said Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Consumer Protection.
According to complaints, consumers were offered 40 per cent discounts on Maximum Retail Price (MRP) but in fact they were overcharged in the name of VAT thereby not getting actual percentage of the discount offered, he said.
MRP on any product is a price which is inclusive of all taxes including VAT also and if the trader offers any discount on MRP, the reduced price also have the VAT component in it and any additional tax will automatically reduce the discount offered, he said.
