GCCI hails Goa Budget for being development-oriented

Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has said that the state budget for 2017-18 presented by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is "development oriented" and looks to revive the economy.
The Budget was tabled in the State Assembly on March 24.
"The Chief Ministerhasonce again comeup with a development-oriented budgetaimed at kick starting the state's economy which has been sluggish for the last couple of years," GCCI President Narayan Bandekar said in a press note issued here yesterday.
Thehugeallocationforthe much needed up-gradation ofinfrastructure like bridges and roads, water treatment andsupply, sewerage systemsandgarbageandsolid waste treatmentfacilities, dredging and desiltingofrivers, others will helpinmeeting some of the long pending demands of the industry, Bandekar said.
Theproposed Information Technology facilitiesat Tuem and Chimbel, resolvetoimplementIT Policy, setting upofa Start-up Promotion Board, focus on ease of doing business augur wellforindustry, he said.
The proposal of furtherliberalisation of Goa Industries Development Corporation Regulations to make allotments and transfer of plots more transparent and hassle-free will prove beneficial forthe industry, Bandekar said.
"Upgradation of tourism facilities iswelcome and we hopethat the Tourism Master Planwill also focus on issues like metres and GPS system for taxis, improved connectivity between Dabolim airport and cities like Panaji, Margao, Mapusa andothers," he said.
