Gehlot for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna to Paralympics medalists

Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot today pitched for giving prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards to the Rio Paralympics medal winners.
Gehlot said the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under his ministry, will felicitate the medal winners and give cash award which will be announced later.
"Indian players at the the Rio Paralympics have given inspiring performance. They have done commendable job," he said.
Replying to a question, Gehlot said he will talk to the Sports Minister about the Paralympics medal winners being honoured with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
In the past, medal winners at various Paralympics have been conferred with other awards like Arujna Award, but not the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
The Indian athletes have so far won four medals - two gold, one silver and one bronze - at the Rio Paralympic games.
The medal winners are - Devendra Jhajharia (gold medal winner in the javelin throw), Deepa Malik (silver in shot put), and Thangavelu Mariyappan, Vrun Bhati (gold and bronze respectively in high jump event).
