Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot have condemned the arrest of former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah.
"The arrest of two former CMs of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti is condemnable and it could have been avoided. Government should have taken J&K leaders into confidence instead they have been arrested," Gehlot tweeted on Monday night.
"For us to be a progressive, vibrant democracy-all political parties and local representatives needed to be involved in Jammu and Kashmir," Pilot posted on Twitter on Monday.
Mufti and Abdullah, who were under house arrest since Sunday night, were arrested on Monday after the Centre decided to revoke provisions of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and also proposed bifurcation of the state.
"No justification for arresting former CMs, who took oath under the constitution and treating them at par with separatists. I pray and hope that peace prevails," Pilot, who is also the state Congress president, added.
