The "Purple Rain" icon passed away at his Paisley Park studios compound in Minnesota without leaving a will and a judge approved a request by the singer's sister, Tyka Nelson, to open a probate case, after confirming the superstar had failed to leave instructions regarding his final wishes, reported Contactmusic.
The judge also agreed to appoint executives at the Bremer Trust, National Association, to serve as the official administrators of Prince's estate for up to six months, until a personal representative could take over the responsibility.
The singer's assets have been frozen until a judge decides how much the administrator can give the family for living expenses.
Lopez, who was reportedly close with Prince, has now stepped forward to help the family during the difficult transition. The donation was reportedly made anonymously.
