Delhiites got a taste of traditional cakes, cookies and chocolates, German delicacies like potato salad and sausages and a chance to buy handicrafts, toys and souvenirs of that country at the annual German Christmas Market here over this weekend.
With an aim to celebrating Christmas the German way, the 19th edition of the annual event was held under the aegis of the German Embassy and supported by the German School and Federation of Indo-German Societies in India.
Some of the highlights were German music, Christmas carols, Gingerbread house, German roof top restaurant and coffee shop and magic shows by German magician Janko Renos. Also there was a Santa Claus distributing gifts to the kids.
Over 90 exhibitors presented lifestyle products and gifting ideas for the festive season - Christmas trees, candles, cards, jewellery, home and garden accessories, cutlery and silverware.
German families and senior executives were seen serving home-baked cakes, freshly-baked waffles and other German delicacies while children from the German School participated in Christmas Choir.
"This is the 19th edition of the German Christmas Market and we at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce are delighted to continue this tradition for years. It's a perfect platform to celebrate the festive season and promote Indo-German business plus cultural relations," said Sonia Prashar, Deputy Director General of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.
The German Christmas Market has over the years proved to be a successful launch base for companies to test market their products and gain a hands on experience by interacting with their target clients.
The first ever Christmas market, Dresden's "Striezelmarkt", recorded as far back as 1434. Frankfurt Christmas market is one of the oldest in Germany. This year, it features about 200 custom designed booths and stalls stretching from the Zeil pedestrian promenade to St Paul's Square, the Romerberg and the banks of River Main. One of the market's many highlights is the 300-year-old timber-frame "honey-house", which is erected on St Paul's Square every year.
