German firm bags wastewater treatment project in Punjab

Passavant Energy & Environment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI) PJSC of Germany, has signed two contracts for a combined value of USD 28 million (103 million dirhams) for the construction and operation of two wastewater treatment plants in Punjab, the company has said.
The winning of the new contracts for Amritsar Sewerage Project in Punjab further reinforces the company's growing presence in the subcontinent, and will help to consolidate its position in India, it said.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Frankfurt based Passavant Energy & Environment will undertake design and construction, including installing, testing, commissioning and 5-year operation of two sewage treatment plants each.

This will have a capacity of 95 million litres per day (MLD) and will be based on the Activated Sludge Treatment Process. The work will be carried out in Northern and Southern Amritsar, the company said
DSI has offices in Dubai, Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, Jordan and India, Thailand, as well as managing projects in Europe and other parts of North Africa.
"The water and wastewater treatment sector is currently witnessing a significant growth in India with the rise in demand for highly advanced wastewater treatment and waste to energy technologies.

"There is a tremendous potential for leading companies like Passavant Energy and Environment in the Indian market, " said Mazen Bachir, the Managing Director, Passavant Energy and Environment.

"As pioneers of Waste to Energy plants in the Middle East, achieving Zero Liquid Discharge at our Waste Treatment Plant in Lebanon, we believe that we will be able to cater to the specific requirements of the region," said a report quoting Mazen Bachir.
Passavant along with DSI will leverage its engineering capabilities as well as a strong presence in the region to jointly explore the lucrative opportunities in India, he said.
Passavant Energy and Environment in Asia is currently working on two key projects of combined value of AED (United Arab Emirates Dirham) 50 million in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The company is building a Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4.5 million litres per day (MLD) for Ford India in Ahmedabad and in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, it has undertaken work for the construction of a complete sewerage system of 80 kilometers.
DSI's main business streams include Drake & Scull Engineering, which serves as the MEP and Water & Power arm, Drake & Scull Construction (DSC), which is the General Civil Contracting unit, Drake & Scull Rail, focusing on Rail Networks and Train Stations, Drake & Scull Oil and Gas, catering to the Oil & Gas sector, and Drake and Scull Development, focusing on the Infrastructure sector.
