Sukhvinder Singh was nabbed in Delhi on July 3, they said.
Ambala Police Commissioner Ajay Singhal told reporters today that Sukhvinder was awarded life term in the rape and abduction case of the German woman and was lodged at Chandigarh's Model Jail.
He was granted parole for a period from July 18, 2013 to August 30, 2013, but he did not turn up after the duration, following which an FIR was registered against him in Saha (Ambala) police station.
The gangrape took place in 2008 when the victim had come to India to attend a friend's wedding.
On September 26, 2008, she was kidnapped in a vehicle from the parking area of a hotel in Sector 17 at Chandigarh by five persons, including Sukhvinder Singh.
After travelling for some time, the accused reached a deserted place and gangraped the woman. The next day, she was dropped near the house of her friend's husband in Sector 20 at Chandigarh.
