After attracting 6,15,617 Indian tourists in 2013, Germany aims for a growth of around 10 percent in all visitor segments from India this year.
"In 2013, we had more than 600,000 overnight visitors from India which represents a growth of 5.3 percent. Germany comes second to Spain as European travel destinations for Indians. We have huge potential. Germany is fastest growing travel markets and we do our best to facilitate the visits," German Ambassador to India, Micheal Steiner said today.
Romit Theophilus, Director Sales and Marketing, German National Tourist Office (India), said arrival of 6,15,617 Indian tourists in Germany was recorded last year and keeping view of this the country plans to invest to the tune of 500,000 Euros in the market in 2014.
"We are targeting an approximate 8-10 per cent growth from all visitor segments from India and will be investing to the tune of 500,000 Euros into the market in 2014," he said, adding that a growth of 60 per cent was recorded in tourist travel from India to Germany from 2007 to 2013.
The GNTO also announced their new campaign "Germany - UNESCO World Heritage destination" for 2014 with an aim to strengthen its image as a cultural destination by promoting world heritage sites and their surrounding regions.
"Germany is a world class travel destination. This year we will concentrate on UNESCO world heritage sites in Germany. The latest figures of Indians visiting Germany is impressive," Steiner said.
The German Ambassador, however, said that sexual violence in India casts a shadow on tourism and is amongst the most asked questions when it comes to Germans coming to India.
"News about sexual violence against women in India has been followed worldwide. This is one of the first question which is asked when it is about tourism in India. That, of course, also cast a shadow on the situation," he said.
