Germany's foreign minister says officials from the Group of Seven powers will meet later this month to discuss a political strategy against the extremist Islamic State group.
Germany currently chairs the G-7, which also includes the US, Canada, France, Britain, Japan and Italy.
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told lawmakers today he invited his G-7 counterparts to a meeting when the annual UN General Assembly meets in New York the week after next.
He said that, in New York, "we will discuss together this political strategy with the Arab states.

Steinmeier stressed the need for a political strategy against the Islamic State group, which has overrun parts of Iraq and Syria, and noted that was part of U.S. President Barack Obama's yesterday's speech.
