Germany honours three Indians with Cross of the Order of Merit

Germany has conferred three Indians with its 'Cross of the Order of Merit' award for their contribution in strengthening Indo-German relations over the past decades.
The awards were bestowed on Anand Singh Bawa, Kalyan Sachdev and Syed Hasnain by German Ambassador Michael Steiner here at a function yesterday.
Bawa is the honorary Secretary of Federation of Indo-German Societies in India (FIGS) since 1978. He has been involved in a number projects of FIGS such as the translation of German books for the Indian market.
"Until this very day, Anand Singh Bawa is the heart and soul of the Federation of Indo-German Societies in India, promoting tirelessly the Indo-German ties - infact, like an Ambassador," said Steiner.
Sachdev, founder of a hospital in Gurgaon, is the liaison doctor for the German Embassy since 1975 and has been conferred the award for contribution in the health-care services sector, a release issued by German embassy said.
Hasnain is a microbiologist, especially acclaimed for his research work on Tuberculosis. The German embassy said he paved the way for setting up of the office of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in India.
"Through this Order, Germany acknowledges the personal commitment and the outstanding contribution of the three awardees to Indo-German relations over the past decades," the release said.
