Germany is set to launch a pilot project for training of Indian nurses according to German medical care standards to cater to the needs of hospitals there.
"Due to a substantial dearth of young personnel in the medical care sector in Germany, we are considering to launch a pilot project for training nurses as per German medical standards," said Jurgen Mannicke, consultant in International vocational training of Germany.
The project expected to be launched soon in collaboration with Navkar Centre for Skills, an organisation conducting vocational training programme in health care sector, will target 20-30 nurses in its initial phase.
The group to be trained according to German industry standards will make them eligible to be employed in hospitals across Germany, said Mannicke.
Although not entitled to additional benefits, nurses in this pilot project will be able to procure residential and work permit and may become eligible for German citizenship over the years.
These nurses would be paid according to German industry standards and fears that immigrants could lead to an influx of cheap labour is speculative, he said.
Germany, which faces shortage of nursing staff due to lack of trained youth and ageing population has previously conducted such pilot projects for seeking nursing support in China and Philippines.
However, to cope with this prolonged deficit in the medical care sector, the country is looking towards India for young untapped labour force.
