Ggn factory workers turn violent, set ablaze 10 vehicles

Several workers of a garment factory at sector 37 here went on a rampage and set ablaze around 10 vehicles in the plant today following rumours of death of a co-worker, police said.
The police immediately reached the spot and pacified the workers, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said.
The police have lodged an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC against eight workers who have been identified, Virk said.
"After getting the information about the violence, Kherki Dhaula SHO Gulam Mohd reached the spot with his police station force and tried to pacify the situation. Workers had turned violent and before the police reinforcement in sufficient numbers could reach the spot, miscreants burnt down around ten vehicles including four and two wheelers," he said.
No casualties were reported, he said.
"The unrest was reportedly caused by a rumour of a worker's death. Miscreants also broke glasses outside the building and tried to set on fire various inflammable materials stored in the factory premises," he said.
A worker later identified Pawan, aged around 30 years got an electric shock in the plant following which a rumour spread that he had died of electric shock.
Pawan got electric shock but now he is safe and out of danger, Virk claimed.
The situation was brought under control and a flag march with about 200 police personnel was conducted, police said.
Strong police presence will be maintained for the next few weeks to ensure peace in the area, they added.
