An FIR was registered here against five employees of Modi Steel who had allegedly taken nearly Rs 2 crore from a man for awarding a scrap contract to him but instead handed it to another company, police said on Wednesday.
The chief judicial magistrate's court had on Monday directed police to lodge the FIR against a general manager and four other employees of Modi Steel, which is owned by industrial conglomerate Umesh Modi Group.
The FIR was registered on Tuesday, the police said.
The court had ordered that the FIR be registered on the basis of a complaint by Wasid Pradhan, a resident of Masuri town here, Superintendent of Police (rural area) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said.
According to the complaint, Pradhan had finalised a deal for the scrap contract with the general manager, Amber Jaitlay, and paid an advance of Rs 1 crore and 90 lakh. However, the accused awarded the contract to some other company, he said.
The accused have been booked under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
