Ajay Shankar Pandey, an IAS officer of the 2005 batch, took charge of the Ghaziabad district magistrate (DM).
He replaced Ritu Maheswari, an IAS officer of the 2003 batch who has been posted as the Chief Executive Officer of Noida.
Maheswari remained the DM for around 22 months.
Prior to his new posting, Pandey served as the Muzaffarnagar DM.
He also served as the officer on special duty with Rajasthan Governor Kalyan singh.
He had earlier served the Ghaziabad civic body as the municipal commissioner.

Pandey said providing an impartial, transparent and corruption-free administration was his priority.
The new DM said he would focus on the rule of law, ensuring the safety of women and a balanced urban and rural development.
No stone would be left unturned to eradicate traffic congestion and tackle pollution in the district, Pandey added.
