Ghaziabad violence: Three police officers suspended

"Station Officer Masuri P K Singh, SSI Local Intelligence Unit Jal Singh Saini and SI LIU D P Singh have been suspended for their failure to control the situation and provide the intelligence inputs," SSP Ghaziabad Prashant Kumar told reporters.

District authorities have also recommended the transfer of Circle Officer Sadar Ajay Kumar and suspension of CO LIU Mohini Pathak and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Keshav Kumar, he said.

No arrest has been made yet in connection with the violence, the SSP said adding the curfew was still in force in the trouble-torn area.

Six people were killed and 12 injured in violence and arson during a protest against alleged desecration of a holy book in Dasna on Friday.

The violence erupted after torn pages from a holy book were found at Adhyatmik Nagar railway station platform.

The Uttar Pradesh government had ordered an inquiry by Divisional Commissioner (Meerut) into the incident.

It also announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed, Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to those having minor injuries.
