Saurav Ghosal is the lone Indian remaining in the fray at the Men's World Squash Championship after he beat Ryan Cuskelly of Australia in the opening round here.
World No. 17 Ghosal, who had a direct entry into the prestigious event, got past the 20th-ranked Australian 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3 in 62 minutes in a match played yesterday. He next faces former world number one and good friend James Willstrop.
Other Indians in draw, Harinder Pal Sandhu and Mahesh Mangaonkar, suffered first round defeats.
Sandhu, who did well to come through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw as a qualifier, lost to Nicholas Mueller of Switzerland 5-11, 11-1, 4-11, 9-11.
Mangaonkar, however, perished in the qualifying phase itself, losing to Andrew Wagih of Egypt 6-11, 5-11, 8-11 in the final round.
