Four women, who allegedly roughed up a 20-year-old girl student in a Churchgate bound train from Virar, were today detained after being identified by the victim, police said.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim, Rutuja Naik, an engineering student, a non-cognisable offence was registered against four women at the Vasai road police station yesterday, they said.
The accused, who are regular commuters, were identified by Rutuja today at Virar station after the incident, which took place on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Deepali Sawant, Neha Thakur, Naina Thakur and Ashwani Gaurav, police said.
The victim had boarded the train from Virar at around 8:40 AM on Tuesday. She was beaten up by the accused who were objecting to those alighting at Vasai.
As Rutuja was readying to get down at Vasai, the accused women forcibly stopped her from moving out of the local train and roughed her up. Reportedly, the victim also also suffered a brief asthmatic attack during the incident.
