According to officials, Soma was brought here after she found roaming aimlessly in the Pathankot district of Punjab. She was first noticed by the village headmen who reported the matter to the district administration of Pathankot which sent the girl to Amritsar Child Welfare Centre. From there she was moved to Pingalwara for shelter.
During stay in the Pingalwara, the girl was detected to be a patient of schizophrenia. After some medical treatment, she was able to recall her family members and address.
Subsequently her family in West Bengal was informed and her mother came here to take her back home.
