A ten-year-old girl was killed and seven people, including two other girls, were injured in a roadside bomb attack in Thailand's insurgency affected southern region.
Suspected ultras set-off a radio-controlled bomb near an army base in Pattani province's Sai Buri district, when soldiers were returning to their base after finishing their guard duty at a mosque, police Col Panya Karawanan said.
The blast killed Itima Sajeh, 10, on the spot and injured two soldiers and five villagers, including a seven-year-old and an 18-year-old girls.
They were bystanders.
The attack came at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which has witnessed a spurt of attacks.
Last Friday, a bomb blast claimed two lives in Yala province and left ten others injured.
Over 5,000 people have been killed in the country's three Muslim-dominated provinces bordering Malaysia since the onset of an Islamic insurgency in 2004. The insurgents often attack soldiers, police and civil servants such as teachers, but civilians, both Buddhist and Muslim, too get caught in harm's way.
