The victim, a resident of Potka in East Singhbhum district, was found bleeding profusely on Wednesday near a toilet by the staff of M G M Hospital who admitted her later on, said Senior Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Jha.
A case in this regard was lodged under Sakchi police station today.
"We have sought explanation from surgeon Dr Manju Kumari Choudhury and other medical staff, who were on duty when the incident took place, as why they did not report the matter to the police immediately," said Superintendent of the hospital Dr S S Prasad.
Admitting the lapse for informing the matter to the police, Prasad said initially the victim was reluctant to report the incident to the police, leading to delay in lodging the FIR.
Jha said a police team, which was formed to investigate the incident, is conducting raids to apprehend the culprit, who was a relative of the victim.
A medical check-up of the girl has been conducted and she was kept under observation.
