Girl's body recovered from Beas, police suspect honour killing

Police today recovered body of a missing girl from Beas river near Bhent Pattan village and booked five persons in connection with the matter, suspecting it to be a case of honour killing.
DSP Parminder Singh said Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Kiri Afgana village under Sri Hargobindpur police station was missing since September 30, but her parents neither informed the police nor made any effort to locate her.
However, police recovered her body from river Beas near Bhet Pattan village, where her maternal grand parents live, he said.
Shamsher Singh, a resident of Kiri Afgana village told police that Paramjit wanted to marry him, but her parents were against her wishes, the DSP said.
Shamsher alleged that Paramjit's parents had murdered her and thrown the body into Beas river, he said.
Police have registered a case of murder against her father Lakhbir Singh and paternal uncles Balbir singh and Baljit Singh, and maternal uncles Jagtar Singh and Sakkater Singh.
