Girls from govt schools in Kashmir watch Assembly proceedings

In a novel initiative, the speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly invited a group of meritorious girl students from government schools so that they are able to understand the functioning of the House.
The girls watched the assembly proceedings and also met Speaker Kavindra Gupta, his deputy Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi in their office chambers besides interacting with several ministers.
"This is my first visit to Jammu and I am feeling altogether a different environment. I got to see different things which I have not experienced before," Zaira Bashir, from government girls higher secondary school, Nawakadal, Srinagar, told reporters in the Assembly hall.
Bashir, who secured the first position in commerce stream by getting 97 per cent marks in the class 12 examination.
Nissa Jan, from government girls model high school Anantnag, said by watching the proceedings of the House she realised it took a lot of Patience to work as a legislator.
Nissa, who secured third position in commerce stream with 95.8 per cent marks, said she aims to become a professor.
The students witnessed the assembly proceedings while the discussion on demand of grants for the department of education was underway.
Speaker Gupta hoped that the experience of watching proceedings would help the students understand the functioning of the legislature, especially how the representatives discuss the issues of public importance for the development of the people, according to a spokesperson.
