Siddaramaiah announced the initiative in the 2013-14 budget in the Legislative Assembly today.
The budget, in which several schemes were announced for the benefit of women, received "thumbs-up" from unmarried and divorced women from below poverty line as well as transgenders (sexual minorities).
A new scheme called 'Manaswini' would be introduced to provide monthly pension of Rs 500 to unmarried women below poverty line who have crossed the age of 40 and for divorced women below the poverty line.
The Chief Minister announced establishment of ten fast- track courts for speedy disposal of cases of crimes against women.

An amount of Rs 50,000 would be given as financial security to physically challenged persons when they get married. Besides, higher education and technical education would be reimbursed to any physically challenged person.
Child care allowance of Rs 2,000 per month would be given to visually challenged women belonging to BPL family after delivery for two years from the date of delivery for a maximum of two deliveries.
Members of families who were involved in illicit distillation would be rehabilitated.
Siddaramaiah announced tax exemption for footwear costing up to Rs 300 per pair.
