"Girls not Bride" campaign extended in Rajasthan
Press Trust of India Jaipur A book documenting educational movement for girls in north-west Rajasthan was released today marking extension of the global "Girls not Bride" campaign run jointly by Unicef and a social organisation in two districts of the desert state.
The book features eleven such girls who have been bringing change in their respective lives and communities.
All girls who participated in 'Balika Shikshan Shivirs' (educational camps) organised by the social organisation Urmul Trust, had either dropped out of schools or had never been to school because of no access or social pressures.
Over 35,000 girls have been part of these camps in the past 15 years.
The book was released by state chief UNICEF Sam Mawunganidze, Education Secretary Veenu Gupta and H J University of Journalism vice-chancellor Sunny Sebastian at a ceremony here.
