A total of 33.34 lakh students had appeared in the examinations held earlier this year, and 28.91 lakh (86.71 per cent) of them secured pass marks, said Board's Secretary Shail Kumari Yadav.
The pass percentage of girls (90. 86) was significantly higher than that of the boys (83.25), even when the girls pass percentage saw a drop of 0.39 per cent compared to last year' results.
The pass percentage of boys rose by a modest 0.38 per cent, though it was still significantly short of the girls pass percentage.
Prerna Verma of Maharani Laxmi Bai Inter College, Barabanki, topped the state with 98 per cent, followed closely by Arnav Nigam of SVMUV, Barinath, Jaunpur who scored 97.50 per cent.

Significantly, 139 candidates took their exams while being lodged in various jails across the state, out of whom 102 secured pass marks.
Bareilly had the highest number (29) of jailed candidates, followed by Hardoi and Lucknow (14 each) and Ghaziabad (13).
