While Kumbh Mela, a mass Hindu pilgrimages of faith is held on the banks of sacred rivers every 12 years, "Mini Kumbh (Magh) Mela" is currently held every year in Allahabad only.
The chief minister also announced formation of the Girnar Development Authority for the overall development of the religious place located in Junagadh district of Saurashtra region.
"The Shivratri fair held every year at the foot of the Girnar mountain will be be considered as Mini Kumbh mela," Rupani said while addressing a huge gathering at Junagadh last night.
The chief minister said his government would repair all the steps of the Girnar mountain which has temples at various levels.
Every year, a mega five-day Shivratri congregation is organised at the foot of the Girnar mountain which is attended by lakhs of devotees.
The mountain and the adjoining forest area of Gir, which houses Asiatic Lions, is considered sacred by Hindu saints and seers. There are numerous ashrams and Akharas around the Girnar mountain.
