Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today urged the Union Power Ministry that her state be given due representation on the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
In a letter to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Raje said that one of the two whole-time members of BBMB should be appointed from Rajasthan.
She further pointed out that, since 2007, no Rajasthan cadre officer has been appointed as secretary to BBMB.
"The (above) issue was discussed at meetings chaired by the Union Minister of Water Resources in 1992 and it was decided that the post of Member (Irrigation) in BBMB would be rotated among Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan every two years, starting from January 1, 1992.
"However, this decision had not been implemented even after two decades," she said.
She said that the issue of appointment of the BBMB secretary from amongst Rajasthan cadre officers was also raised before the Public Accounts Committee of the state Assembly in February, 2011.
The chairman of BBMB had at the time assured that a secretary would be appointed from the state in October, 2011, Raje said, adding that the assurance has not been fulfilled so far.
Raje urged the Union ministry look into the matter and issue immediate orders for the filling of the post of Member (Irrigation) with an officer from the irrigation department of Rajasthan.
