The Hyderabad High Court today directed the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to give wide publicity to various agrarian welfare measures so as to stop farmers' suicides.
It was hearing a PIL filed by Prof Kodanda Ram and others about the two governments' alleged inaction in the face of increase in number of farmer suicides.
A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice D B Bhosale held that though both the governments have launched several schemes to support farming, they are not reaching the intended beneficiaries.
It also directed the state governments to look into the feasibility of implementing recommendations of the Dr Swaminathan committee.
The court also directed Andhra Pradesh government to study the suggestions given by Prof Kodanda Ram on the issue.
The hearing was adjourned for two weeks at the request of Telengana government.
