All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) today said it would launch a first-of-its-kind Jewellers Identity Card (JID), which would be a smart identity card to establish credentials of member jewellers and their employees.
"The JID is aimed at providing comfort to all constituents of the national gems and jewellery trade, particularly to small jewellers to avoid various hardships faced by them in establishing their credentials to government authorities," GJF Chairman Haresh Soni said in a release here.
He said that the JID would be an ideal solution with respect to establishing their bonafide identities and association with the gems and jewellery sector as well as the Federation.
JID would also be useful to identify people internally within the trade whenever any person travels to other places to deliver or collect goods, he said.
"The entire programme is credible because it has the support of the government," Soni said.
The JID is a unique identification credential for people working in the domestic gems and jewellery sector at the time of movement within and outside the city, state or inside the country with precious and semi-precious jewellery, gold and diamond.
GJF happens to be the largest single trade body in India for the promotion and growth of trade in gems and jewellery across India.
