"India today is quite different from what it was barely 20 years ago. India's doctors, engineers, IT specialists, space scientists, academicians and management professionals are present in the West in large numbers making the country proud," he said.
General (retd) Singh, speaking at a convocation ceremony of a private educational institute here, asked students to acquire excellence in their chosen fields to move forward in their lives and contribute to nation building.
Education must prepare youth for integration into societies and economies from highly diverse, linguistic, ethnic, religious, racial and cultural backgrounds, he said.
Children should be taught 'to learn how to learn' in view of the availability of enormous amount of information now available through the internet, he added.
