At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in May traded notably higher by Rs 915, or 2.28 per cent, at Rs 40,960 per kg in a business turnover of 1,991 lots.
Likewise, the white metal for delivery in far-month July rose by Rs 914, or 2.25 per cent, to Rs 41,450 per kg in 47 lots.
Analysts said speculative positions built up by participants tracking a firm trend in precious metals despite the US Fed rate hike by a quarter percentage point supported the upside in silver prices here.
